One year after the 9th Latin American and Caribbean Conference of Social Sciences

Exactly one year remains until the 9th Latin American and Caribbean Conference of Social Sciences “Networks of Inequalities in Latin America and the Caribbean”, which will take place from June 7 to 10, 2022 at the facilities of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

The countdown finds us fully committed to the organization at all levels, to make this regional and global meeting of social sciences and humanities a milestone in the debate of ideas and in the generation of proposals in the face of the challenges of the coming years.

The Conference, originally scheduled for November 2021, had to be rescheduled given that the COVID-19 pandemic continues to raise major questions about the future, with new variants of the virus and peaks in infections, awaiting the results of a vaccination that is still far from being massive and equitable, a global reality that greatly limits travel and threatens to last for some time.

Previously, on June 5 and 6, 2022, two CLACSO Assemblies will take place: the Extraordinary Assembly to consider the statutes and the Ordinary Assembly, which is held every three years and is where the perspectives at the regional and global level are discussed and where the main guidelines for the work of the following years are set.

The #CLACSO2022 edition will be held at one of the main universities in our continent, the UNAM of Mexico, in the country's capital where CLACSO has 101 member centers and associated networks, in addition to a long history of activities and agreements with local institutions.

It will feature open and special panels with international guests, lectures and keynote dialogues with leading figures from the political, academic, and social fields, as well as training workshops, panels, and roundtables. These will be complemented by an international book fair for social sciences and humanities and an international film series, among other special events.

More information:

The Latin American and Caribbean Conference of Social Sciences (CLACSO) has been, since its first edition in 2003, the largest academic and political event in the Social Sciences and Humanities worldwide. In its eight previous editions, which coincided with the General Assemblies of the Council, diverse themes have been addressed in response to the political and social circumstances of the region. In 2022, the central theme of the Conference will be the complex web of inequalities.
