Four years after the assassination of Marielle Franco

Four years have passed since the assassination of Marielle Franco, and the Brazilian state and justice system look the other way and still have not provided answers about who ordered her murder.

A sociologist, feminist, and activist for human rights and Black women's rights in Brazil, Marielle was shot dead on the night of March 14, 2018, in Rio de Janeiro. She was 38 years old. At the time, she had been denouncing the violence in the favelas and the actions of paramilitary groups.

Since then, his image has grown immensely, and at CLACSO we keep the flame of his example and teachings burning brightly. We join those demanding answers from the authorities responsible for investigating this vile crime, which also claimed the life of driver Anderson Gomes. Undoubtedly, the case has become an emblem of impunity in present-day Brazil.
