101 years since the birth of Paulo Freire
September 19, 2022 marks the 101st anniversary of Paulo Freire's birth, and at CLACSO, we continue to celebrate the living presence of his legacy with a collective volume co-edited with the Bogotá Education Secretariat, which brings together the voices of educators from across the continent: "100 Voices (and a Letter) for Paulo Freire."
The name Paulo Freire signifies much more than the figure of the most universal of Latin American educators: to evoke his name is to appeal to a conception of education as a tool for social transformation; to a commitment to the dignification of teachers as intellectuals of culture; to an understanding of education as a political tool; to a commitment to the school as a space of freedom.
Paulo Freire's legacy continues to influence countless critical works inspired by his original approach to rethinking political education for Latin America. CLACSO invites you to read his philosophical biography, Paulo “Freire More Than Ever,” written by Walter Kohan.
