Territories, struggles and resistances
Three members of CLACSO Working Groups, who participated in the forum “Territories, struggles and resistances: Community horizons in the face of the reproduction of inequalities of capitalism in Latin America and the Caribbean” at the 9th Latin American and Caribbean Conference of Social Sciences, which took place from June 7 to 10, 2022 at UNAM in Mexico, visited the CLACSO.tv studio to share their conclusions: Luis Manuel Martinez, GT “Borders, regionalization and globalization”, Eliud Torres Velázquez, GT “Critical Studies of Rural Development” and Carmen Cariño Trujillo, GT Territorialities in dispute and r-existence.
Given the diversification of inequalities in Latin America and the Caribbean, exacerbated after two years of pandemic, it is imperative to reaffirm critical thinking from the social sciences to challenge contextual analyses, reveal the multiple forms of violence perpetrated by various actors, including governments, and strengthen collective efforts to defend territories for dignified and shared lives. Reinterpreting critical thinking entails fostering horizontal dialogues, recognizing the equal importance of academic and social knowledge, and promoting self-criticism in research processes to generate knowledge and collaborate with social movements.
