Electoral victory for Gustavo Petro and Francia Márquez

The CLACSO Steering Committee welcomes and celebrates the electoral victory of Gustavo Petro and Francia Márquez as president and vice president of the Republic of Colombia for the period 2022-2026.

The government program, elected by more than 11 million Colombians and being the highest vote in the country's democratic history, opens a scenario of possibility to move towards peace, social justice and environmental justice for a people burdened by war, inequality and social precarity, as the president firmly stated in his speech on June 19.

We also want to highlight its commitment to strengthening knowledge production processes and positioning it as a leading force in driving the transformations that Colombia and all of Latin America demand. In this context, we offer our full support, as the largest network of social centers in Latin America, to contribute to this knowledge agenda proposed by Gustavo Petro, and to build bridges to help strengthen the regional integration also emphasized by the president-elect.
