Society of Political Economy – Paraguay

Alhelí González Cáceres, President

The Paraguayan Society of Political Economy (SEPPY) was founded in June 2010 and was born as a response to the urgent need to expand and strengthen critical thinking in Paraguay, through investigating and deepening the essence of the economic and social problems that are expressed in dependent economies like ours in the context of the global capitalist economy.

For a decade, SEPPY has contributed to the organized struggle of the Paraguayan working class, proposing guidelines and participating in training sessions that foster an understanding of reality in order to transform it. Furthermore, SEPPY represents a vital outlet for the development of a critical economics, seeking to carve out a space for itself within the hegemony of the prevailing economic orthodoxy in our university curricula. All of this lends our organization great relevance, given that economic science is also a terrain of ideological dispute.
