Each chapter of this book focuses on themes that illuminate the social, political, economic, and cultural inequalities faced by children and youth in Latin America and the Caribbean. Likewise, each work addresses general and cross-cutting themes that are then explored in specific studies and on particular topics. While the works draw on diverse approaches to the field, they share a common ground and starting point: a political and epistemological stance. This stance is evident not only in the contextual descriptions but, fundamentally, in understanding inequalities as a central category for the cross-cutting approach to childhood and youth studies in the social sciences. The researchers who co-authored this book do not consider themselves neutral analysts; on the contrary, we are immersed in the unequal society and the problems we investigate. We invite you to read this book and formulate new questions that will lead to renewed answers.
