“Mexico is a leading country for the CLACSO network”

Within the framework of the University Book Fair , the meeting of the CLACSO Member Centers of Mexico was held at the facilities of the Institute of Economic Research of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) , with important attendance of representatives from different regions of the country.

Participants included Pablo Vommaro , Executive Director of CLACSO, Nayeli Quevedo , member of the CLACSO Steering Committee for Mexico, Berenice Ramírez , alternate member of the Steering Committee for Mexico, as well as Fernanda Pampín, Director of Publications at CLACSO, and Gustavo Lema, Director of Communication and Information.

Following a comprehensive general report from the members of the Executive Secretariat, then focusing in particular on the North American country that brings together 125 CLACSO Member Centers, an enriching exchange followed between those present and those who participated virtually, arriving at encouraging prospects for future joint work.

In this regard, Pablo Vommaro emphasized that “Mexico is a fundamental and leading country, both in our CLACSO network and in the geopolitics of the region and the world. We want to express this strategic position in each of our initiatives.”

She also pointed out that “in a context where higher education and public science are under attack, and where denialist and anti-science discourses are advancing, we face a very important challenge as a network of critical and transformative thought.” In particular, she emphasized that “regarding artificial intelligence, we propose neither rejection nor naive acceptance, but rather a critical appropriation that allows us to harness its potential without reproducing inequalities, biases, or logics of domination.”

And Vommaro concluded: “Mexico has a leading role in CLACSO that is not just talk, but is expressed in actions; and we want to continue promoting it and strengthening a logic of collaboration between the centers.”
