Chinese researchers visited UBA and CLACSO
A delegation from the Institute of American Studies (United States) of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) made an academic visit to the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), where they held meetings with researchers and authorities to analyze the evolution of relations between China, Latin America and the United States, as well as the prospects for cooperation in the new international context.
According to the Institute of Latin American and Caribbean Studies (IEALC) of the University of Buenos Aires, the delegation was made up of researchers Liu Weidong, Shi Peipei and Chen Ye.
At the Faculty of Social Sciences, they were received by Julián Rebón, Secretary of Advanced Studies; Inés Nercesian, Undersecretary of Doctoral Studies; and Verónica Giordano, Coordinator of the Development and Global South Program. Also participating were visiting professor Carlos Vidigal from the University of Brasilia; Chinese students from the Master's Program in Latin American Social Studies Wang Shunhong, Tang Zinan, Guo Jiaqi, and Li Ziyi; American student Henry Hoffstot; and UBA Sociology graduates Sol Viard and Juliana Monzón.
The activity was conducted in a round table format, where participants exchanged views on the relations between Latin America, the United States and China and discussed the experience of international students at UBA.
At the IEALC, the delegation held a working meeting with the director of the institute, Julio Moyano; the CONICET researcher Inés Nercesian; Professor Gabriel Puricelli; the co-editor of DangDai Magazine, Gustavo Ng; the professor from the University of Brasilia, Laura Urrejola; the specialist in Chinese studies, Facundo Muciaccia; the student Wang Shunhong and Verónica Giordano.
During the meeting, the relations between China and the United States were discussed from an Argentine perspective, the implications for the strategic autonomy of Argentina and Latin America of the so-called "Donroe Doctrine" attributed to Donald Trump, the impact of US domestic policy on Latin America, and the possibilities of deepening cooperation between China and Argentina in the contemporary international scenario.
The academic agenda also included a visit to CLACSO, where the delegation was received by Gustavo Lema, Director of Communication and Information; Fernanda Pampín, Director of Publications; and Magdalena Rauch, Research Coordinator.
Also participating in the meeting were researchers Sebastián Schulz, Gabriel Merino and Leandro Morgenfeld, members of working groups of the Council.
The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on knowledge production in social sciences, studies on international relations, and opportunities to strengthen academic cooperation ties between institutions in China and Latin America.
