Reading series “Transformations of late capitalism” – Third edition (IIGG)

August 19 - 6:00 pm - 8:00 PM CMT

The cycle brings together research groups to discuss contemporary capitalism based on common readings.

In the 2024 and 2025 editions, texts by Rebecca Carson, Joseph Vogl, Robert Kurz, Bernard Stiegler, Benjamin Bratton, George Caffentzis and Yannis Varoufakis were discussed.

This year, the series will feature two events. The first proposes a dialogue between Matteo Pasquinelli – “Machinic Capitalism and Network Surplus Value / Notes on the Political Economy of the Turing Machine” – and George Caffentzis – “A Critique of Cognitive Capitalism” and “The End of Work or the Renaissance of Slavery? A Critique of Rifkin and Negri.”

The second will address current critical issues surrounding platforms and artificial intelligence: “Surveillance Capitalism or Democracy?” by Shoshana Zuboff (selection: “Prologue”, “Our Accidental Dystopia” and “Fourth Foundational Stage”); and “Digital Dependency Theory” by Cecilia Rikap (selection: “Introduction. Artificial Intelligence Hub?”, “Centers” and “Progress”).

The invitation is open to the public. The meetings will be held on Wednesdays, August 12 and 19, at 6:00 p.m. in Room 1 of the Gino Germani Research Institute.
