Indigenous peoples: dialogues and epistemic-territorial disputes
El CLACSO Working Group on Indigenous Peoples: Epistemic-Territorial Dialogues and Disputes (PI-DDET) represents the continuation of two previous working groups on Indigenous peoples. Currently, we have strengthened and expanded this collective space with the participation of researchers from the following Indigenous nations: Miskito, Embera, Bribri, Diaguita, Maya K'iche', Lickanantay, Aymara, and Tupinambá.
Nahuat, Misak, Mapuche, Lenca, Chango and Gunadule, together with academics, students, organizations and academic centers from Abia Yala, Canada and the Caribbean.
This Working Group is an interdisciplinary, intercultural, interepistemic, and interscientific space that recognizes territory as the primary learning environment and Mother Earth as the teacher of knowledge. We promote interepistemic and interscientific dialogues through our own methodologies and decolonizing approaches, strengthening horizontal relationships between Indigenous knowledge and Western sciences. Furthermore, we reaffirm that Indigenous peoples are collective subjects of political rights and epistemically autonomous.
The group makes ancestral knowledge visible from the territory, weaves living memories, and strengthens intergenerational dialogue, promoting advocacy committed to the defense of human life and nature. It questions material, immaterial, and epistemic extractivism, driving
collaborative research, forums and seminars on autonomy, food sovereignty, self-governance and integral defense of life, Mother Earth and territories.
