Circulation of knowledge and urban policies
In recent decades, the circulation of urban knowledge, models, and policies has intensified. This is due to advances in information and communication technologies, as well as phenomena such as decentralization, democratization, and neoliberalism.
The State has accelerated and increased the historical process of unequal circulation of knowledge and public policies promoted by financial, international and philanthropic organizations, investors, political actors, city networks and transnational publishing industries.
In that framework, the CLACSO Working Group on the Circulation of Knowledge and Urban Policies The project aims to address the circulation of diverse urban policies in Latin America: some associated with neoliberal urbanism, others linked to alternative perspectives. The group comprises 32 researchers from 10 countries and seeks to organize meetings, seminars, summer schools, and promote research, the development of theses, and publications on the circulation of a variety of urban knowledge and policies in the region.
The working group emphasizes the need to understand that the construction of urban policies and spaces involves both territorial and relational processes. It also argues for the necessity of examining these processes from and within Latin America, considering the subordinate role the region has played in the geopolitics of knowledge and urban models. Far from viewing these processes as neutral, the working group seeks to highlight the political nature of the circulation of urban policies and models.
