“Towards a new world order?”
The Faculty of Social Sciences of the National University of Asunción (UNA), in Paraguay, organized on Friday, October 17th the VII Social Sciences Forum “Towards a new world order? Rethinking the social in uncertain times””, a space for dialogue, analysis and reflection on the contemporary challenges facing Paraguayan society within the framework of current global transformations.
The central conference “Challenges for the Social Sciences in an Uncertain World"was in charge of Pablo Vommaro, Executive Director of CLACSO.
The Forum sought to analyze the challenges of the present: structural inequalities, institutional fragility and historical social debts, promoting critical thinking, interdisciplinary dialogue and the active participation of academia and citizens.

The Forum begins with the recognition that we live in times of civilizational crisis, where values, institutions, and social relations are being reconfigured worldwide. This global uncertainty is expressed in the weakening of democratic principles, the fragmentation of international frameworks, and the rise of new reactionary right-wing movements that threaten historically hard-won rights.
Latin America and the Caribbean—and Paraguay in particular—are not exempt from these dynamics. Economic dependence, structural inequality, and institutional fragility characterize the current regional and national situation, limiting the State's capacity to guarantee well-being, equity, and social justice.
In this context, the Forum proposes to examine the role of the social sciences in the face of the challenges of a changing world:
How are the new configurations of the world order intertwined with Paraguay's historical social debts?
What strategies of resistance, adaptation, or transformation do the different social sectors deploy?
How can critical knowledge contribute to rethinking the social in times of uncertainty?
The VII Social Sciences Forum of FACSO-UNA is thus consolidated as an open space for interdisciplinary dialogue and the collective construction of knowledge, calling on teachers, researchers, students, social movements and citizens in general to reflect on the challenges of our time.
