The Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS) and the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) joined forces to launch the research call "Pension Systems with a Gender Perspective: Progress and Setbacks in Latin America and the Caribbean." This book brings together the work produced under that call. It comprises regional research on the conditions under which women in Latin America and the Caribbean are integrated into the various pension systems of different countries. Of particular interest is how, in most cases, the design, dynamics, and operation of these systems undermine the full exercise of women's rights, specifically the right to equality. This book presents compelling evidence of the differentiated challenges women in the region face in accessing pension benefits in old age. Studying pension systems from a gender perspective addresses a crucial issue for achieving gender equality in our region.
