June 5 – World Environment Day
The United Nations, aware that the protection and improvement of the human environment is a fundamental issue affecting the well-being of peoples and the economic development of the entire world, designated June 5 as "World Environment Day".
World Environment Day has been gaining relevance since it began to be celebrated in 1974, and has become a public awareness platform with wide impact on all five continents.
Each year, the focus is on a theme to raise awareness about a particularly pressing environmental issue. The theme for 2019 is "Air Pollution," a call to action to help combat a serious problem affecting millions of people on our planet.
From its inception, CLACSO has promoted environmental protection. In the immediate future, it is convening the seminar “Climate Change and its impacts on the Greater Caribbean”, which seeks to focus on the economic, social, political and cultural dimensions of these processes and has as its reference space the Greater Caribbean region, with emphasis on the islands and the Cuban case.
