The Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), together with the Retos Publishing Cooperative, the Jorge Alonso Chair and the University Center for Social Sciences and Humanities of the University of Guadalajara, commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation uprising with the publication of 30 paperback books as part of the To the Zapatista Lighthouse Collection.

This series of 30 books is a tribute to the Zapatista women, children, elders, others and men in their more than 500 years of resistance and their 30 years of rebel public life since the uprising of January 1, 1994.

The initiative was promoted by the CLACSO Working Group «Bodies, territories, resistancesAnd more than fifty social scientists and activists from Mexico, Latin America, the US, Europe, and Asia. The books show why, where, and how Zapatismo has been a beacon for many inhabitants of planet Earth. A beacon in the midst of the storm unleashed by what Zapatista women in 2017 named the “machista and patriarchal capitalist system,” fueled by racism and “cisheteronormativity,” as it is called by sexual diversities in movement and re-existence.

The collection is available for free download in open access through the Latin American and Caribbean Social Sciences Library of CLACSO, in the section Editorial production of the CLACSO Centers.
