200 years since the meeting in Guayaquil

To commemorate the 200th anniversary of the meeting between Simón Bolívar and José de San Martín, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of Argentina, and the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) are convening the international colloquium “200 Years Since the Guayaquil Meeting: Legacies and Challenges in the Construction of Latin American Unity” Tuesday, July 26, with broadcast on I live for CLACSO.tv.

When San Martín addressed Simón Bolívar, he did so by expressing that “America will not forget the day we embrace”In light of the historic meeting between two of the most important leaders in the Americas, CELAC, CLACSO, and the Argentine Foreign Ministry offer a collective reflection that contributes to understanding the past and present meanings of emancipatory struggles on our continent. What were the implications of that meeting? Under what premises has it been interpreted? What controversies surround it? What does it tell us today? The meeting, which will include prominent colleagues from across the continent, aims to reflect on one of the most important events in our region.
