CLACSO and the UNESCO Regional Office

On Monday, July 15, the Executive Director of CLACSO, Karina Batthyány, held a meeting with Ernesto Fernández PolcuchThe Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Montevideo, Representation of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization to Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay, also participated. Guillermo AnllóProgram Specialist at UNESCO; virtually Eleonora Lamm, Head of the Social Sciences and Humanities Sector at UNESCO for the region; and Luis Carrizo, consultant at the UNESCO Regional Office for Science.

CLACSO and UNESCO have a long history of cooperation, dating back to the very founding of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences in 1967 as an organization associated with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, a relationship that has strengthened over time. The recent meeting served to review the projects of both institutions, highlighting the various opportunities for cooperation within the framework of the Platforms for Social Dialogue promoted by CLACSO, particularly in the areas of education, migration, the environment, and knowledge dissemination.

They also discussed possibilities for developing joint research projects on topics related to environmental issues, migration and violence, particularly gender and youth violence.

Finally, Karina Batthyány raised the importance of the X Latin American and Caribbean Conference of Social Sciences #CLACSO2025 in Bogotá, in June of next year, in which, without a doubt, UNESCO will once again have a prominent role.
