110th meeting of the CLACSO Steering Committee

The University of the Republic (UDELAR) in Montevideo, Uruguay, is the venue for the 110th Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences, meeting on Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 April 2024.

The Executive Director Karina Batthyány projection “The significance of our CD meeting in the Uruguayan capital, and even more so in this prestigious institution, is that the last time was in 1986, shortly after the return to democracy in my country, 38 years ago,” This importance was highlighted by the Rector of UDELAR, Rodrigo Arim, present at the opening.
“That CLACSO has chosen Montevideo and the University of the Republic as the meeting place for its Governing Council is an honor for us and has a very important symbolic and concrete relevance,” Arim added, highlighting “The importance of CLACSO in Latin America and the Caribbean to understand its projection and its role, at a historical moment where denialisms of different natures abound in our region, particularly linked to the social sciences.”

Next, Karina Batthyány presented CLACSO's management report for the last semester, and then the Directors spoke about the achievements and projects of each of their areas. This led to a fruitful exchange about the challenges facing the region and the social sciences, a discussion that preceded the definition of the work, research, and production priorities for the coming months.

The Steering Committee extended its warmest thanks to the CLACSO Member Centers of Uruguay and to the members of the University of the Republic for the excellent and warm reception both for the 110th meeting of the CLACSO Steering Committee and for the organization of the International Forum “Inequalities in Latin America: tensions, debates and proposals"which, from April 16 to 18, meets at the Faculty of Social Sciences of UDELAR, an activity framed within the Platform for Social Dialogue "Inequalities and poverty in Latin America and the Caribbean" promoted by CLACSO at this stage.
