One of the relevant activities of CLACSO during its stay in China was a meeting with the authorities of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS), where both institutions had an exchange of ideas about the possibilities of joint work aimed at strengthening the Global South perspective.
About this, Karina Batthyány, Executive Secretary of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences, highlighted that «CLACSO’s strategic programs in publications, training and research revolve around three themes that were defined as priorities: poverty and inequalities; migrations and human mobility; environmental issues. Towards this objective, we signed a framework cooperation agreement that will allow us to develop these points and also work on mobility, in the exchange of teachers and students from Latin America and the Caribbean to Shanghai and from Shanghai to Latin America and the Caribbean.
SASS is China’s oldest institution working on humanities and social sciences. It has 17 institutes and 27 interdisciplinary centres that carry out theoretical research and applied studies in Chinese and world economics, finance, law, literature, history, philosophy, information sciences, journalism, sociology, youth studies, religion, demography, international relations, national strategy and regional development, among other specializations.
