The State as a contradiction

 The State as a contradiction

So far in the 21st century, our continent continues to be an emblematic territory of important struggles and disputes surrounding the State.

This scenario of political experimentation may include

Government initiatives that, with varying degrees of radicalism and a desire for rupture, aspire to distance themselves from classical neoliberal ideology. And also the sociopolitical movements that attempt to transcend the limits of the established state and prefigure new forms of social relations.

In our CLACSO Working Group The State as a Contradiction We propose to investigate
on:

  1. Permanent state spheres that play a decisive role as factors of real power, beyond specific governments, such as judicial and repressive systems (armies, police, intelligence services).
  2. The areas of public management and administration (at the national and local levels) that process the multiple social demands and needs.
  3. The new forms of the public-state that are being experienced in the region, to identify in them both the features of preservation of the given and those that show the possibility of change.
  4. The actions of social movements with reference to the State, insofar as they express that the relationship between institutional politics and protest politics is increasingly dynamic and interdependent, expose the contradictions involved in fighting against, in and beyond the State.
